Award Winners at Club Dinner

The kind donation of a magnificient new Club trophy by Mrs. Edith Thompson in memory of her late husband, Ronnie, led to a decision to split out the Third/Fourth XI Player of the Year Awards into two separate honours. This year for the first time, this superb trophy was presented by Edith to the Third XI Player of the Year, with the existing trophy going to Fourth XI Player of the Year.

The Management Committee would like to take this opportunity to thank Edith for her generous contribution to the Club.

Third XI Player of the Year
Trevor Kane became the first reipient of this award. A highly talented young cricketer with a thoughtful and dedicated approach to the game, we have been delighted to see Trevor show us some of his undoubted potential with a season that simply improved as it progressed. Scoring 322 runs with an average of 29.27, the highlight came in the last game of the year with a wonderful 96 n.o.. He also pitched in with 11 wickets thanks to his wily leg-breaks and he was also an essential member of the victorious Under-17 Colts Cup winning team.

Fourth XI Player of the Year
Hard-hitting Robert Peszel has been a consistent run-scorer in the lower XI's over recent years and this season was no different. Opening the batting, when he comes off, he invariably sets his team off to a flying start. This year saw him contribute an ivaluable 422 runs to the Fourth XI with an average of 23.44 and a highest score of 68 n.o..

Under-15 Bowler of the Year
Three exceptional young all-rounders, all of whom had success with bat and ball this year, were vying for the honours this season. Michael Gilmour and last year's winner, Andy Wilson, both enjoyed excellent seasons but this years' winner, David Robinson, just managed to eclipse both of his closest rivals. With 12 wickets for the Under-15's and 27 wickets in men's cricket including 4 for 34 for the Second XI in August, his total of 39 wickets were taken for a mere 14.77 average.

Under-15 Batsman of the Year
Retaining his trophy for another year, Mark McCrae had an exceptional season, scoring 240 runs for the Under-15's and 233 runs in men's cricket, including a maiden 50 for the Third XI. His total 473 runs were scored at an average of 20.56. He also skippered the Under-15's to 6 wins out of 6 in the group stage of the Under-15 league and was a valuable member of the victorious Under-17 Colts' Cup winning team.

Under-13 Bowler of the Year
This year's winner, William Hunter, managed 10 wickets for the Under-13 team with his off-spin at the remarkable average of just 3.20!

Under-13 Batsman of the Year
Leading from the front, Under-13 skipper, Matthew Kernohan, was the only consistent run-scorer for his team, averaging 20 with the bat and captaining his side to 3 wins out of 4.
