David Johan Jacobs, a highly rated young South African batsman was appointed as the club's overseas professional/coach for the 2005 and 2007 seasons. In 2005 he picked up an injury after only 3 league matches during which he revealed little of his considerable ability, and was forced to return home. After spending 5 weeks on loan at Northants early in the 2007 season, he returned only to pick up another injury, and had to return home early for the second time, having played in only 4 league matches.
He made his first class debut in 2001 for North West Province, scoring a maiden hundred in his 4th game. Played for South Africa in 2002 Under 19 World Cup in New Zealand, and was their leading batsman in the tournament, averaging 46. Selected for Rest of South Africa v Sri Lanka in Nov. 2002, scoring 146 off 177 balls.
Davy joined Free State Eagles franchise in 2004. That season he shared in the record 3rd wicket partnership in South African domestic first class cricket of 361, Davy scoring his career best score of 218. He also scored a match winning 82* in the limited overs cup final.
In 2006 he played for South Africa A v New Zealand, and was selected for the South African team in the Emerging Players Tournament in Australia in July.
He joined the Warriors franchise based in Port Elizabeth in 2007 and was appointed captain for the 2008/09 season.
